Art Of Change Beirut – London

23rd June – 9th July 2018

This summer RISEgallery and the Lebanese NGO Ahla Fawda are planning a cultural exchange project, ‘The Art of Change’.

We are looking for a number of visual artists for exterior works, both muralists and urban installation artists of all of nationalities residing in the UK or Lebanon.

The themes of the project are ‘identity’ and ‘changes of perception’ with the aim of promoting cross cultural understanding. It will be a great opportunity to work collaboratively with a dynamic group of international artists!

During the project artists will be required to produce (individual and/or collaborative) artwork and run workshops.

To apply please send us your artist bio, a summary of your work experience (any shows or projects you have been involved in) and three examples of your previous work.

Initially we will be looking at your style and to understand your practice. As a next step we will invite you to propose works for the project.

With regard to street installation concepts please be conscious of sensitive use of materials. A focus on recycled materials would be preferable.

Please Note: only a limited number of artists can be selected and previous experience is not necessary. We aim to work with both established and emerging artists.

CLOSING DATE: 8th March 2018, Midnight. No submissions will be considered after this time.

All travel, accommodation and materials will be covered, as well as a token wage which is yet to be decided.

The artwork locations will be primarily in Croydon and other parts of London with wall sizes varying from 3 x 3 metres to 15 x 15 metres.

Ahla Fawda:

The cultural exchange is in partnership with Ahla Fawda, a Lebanese based non-profit organization, run by volunteers who work towards community development.

Ahla Fawda’s mission is to bring joy to local communities and improve their immediate environments in a cultural and artistic manner, whilst maintaining an overall “green” ethos”, which is one of their prime objectives.  They also provide humanitarian assistance to poverty stricken communities of all creeds in Lebanon.

In 2017, Ahla Fawda partnered with London’s RISEgallery to create an art cultural exchange through a collaborative experience with paint and colour between artists from the UK and Lebanon; transforming bridges and walls around the Lebanese city of Aley to beautiful murals. Known as the “Art Revolution”, that bridged the gap and inspired people regardless of their education or background. Art is an international language that bridges and transcends all gaps and that can be an inspiration to all people whatever their education, culture or country.
