Australian artist Ben Frost is known for his controversial kaleidoscopic Pop Art paintings, confronting viewers with his savage critique of advertising and the mainstream media. Frost appropriates and subverts familiar iconography from the advertising and entertainment industries, such as Disney characters, Hello kitty and the Simpsons, as well as well-known logos, slogans and brands, placing them in unlikely juxtapositions. His provocative imagery is inspired by graffiti, collage and photorealism.
In 2000 he gained notoriety by faking his own death for his infamous exhibition, ‘Ben Frost is Dead’. Frost has been exhibiting in Australia and internationally with many sold out solo shows across the word. He is currently based in Sydney where he operates a multidisciplinary art collective known as StupidKrap.
