Invader is a preeminent French urban artist, known for his interventions or ‘invasions’, in cities across the world where he creates a large number of street mosaics. His works are composed of square ceramic tiles, resembling the pixelated characters of 1970s-80s video games, such as Space Invaders, which he named himself after. He began these invasions in 1998 in his home city of Paris, where he quickly gained notoriety. Invader has invented his own style of mosaic art called ‘Rubikcubism’ which consists of a variety of Rubik’s Cube configurations. His works can be found in galleries and urban spaces worldwide, including unconventional locations, from the streets of the Swiss village of Anzère, 7000 feet above ground, to the depths of the Cancun Bay in Mexico.
