This piece was created by Warhol in 1987, just before the artist’s death that same year. While Warhol’s usual subjects were the stars and shop bought items of his time, in this work Warhol chose to capture one of best known composers of 18th/19th Century, Ludwig van Beethoven. In one of the composer’s best known poses, Warhol retains the prominent features of the original portrait, gracefully overlaying Beethoven’s Sonata No. 14. This portfolio stands as one of Warhol’s most popular for lovers of art and music alike.
